at it for yourself. it is time-lapse images of a waterspout over lake michigan. that's outside of milwaukee. several waterspouts were spotted over lake michigan yesterday. the lake is about a mile away from marquette university. waterspouts are usually seen in the florida region. they were essentially tornados that develop over water.clearly tornados are over land. rob was watching this closely. >>> diana continues her quest this morning to swim. as of right now, the 62-year-old marathon swimmer completed 49 miles of that 103-mile swim. she was out of the water briefly yesterday to board a boat to treat jelly fish stings. she can still pursue her record because she was not resting on the boat. she already has been in the water longer than her last attempt, which happened in august. her swim overnight was a key test to completing that swim, which she hopes to do monday morning on the florida coast. >>> well, there's something really big going on in san francisco. the city is hosting the 47th annual big book sale. organizers say it is the largest sale of its kind on the west coast. all books cost $1.

the economy's slow growth. the unemployment rate in michigan is over the national average and things look much worse in the detroit metro area. unemployment there is nearing 16%. kristen welker is live for us at the white house. kristen, the president right now on board air force one and is touching down soon. what can we expect to hear from him? >> white house officials say the president will talk about the importance of creating a strong middle class to this economic recovery. he'll also likely challenge democrats and republicans to get behind that big jobs plan that you just mentioned that he's going to roll out on thursday. we don't know specifically what's going to be in the plan, i can tell you a couple of things that have been under consideration including extending payroll tax breaks as well as investing in infrastructure, green energy projects and also providing tax breaks for companies who hire new employees. now the community today that will be listening to the president speak thousands of union workers will of course be listening very closely to his words today and again on thursda

new. here in michigan, obviously, it's been very hard hit in large part because of the auto industry. the white house, clearly, picked the gm headquarters to talk a little bit about the auto bailouts which they believe saved thousands of jobs. and the unemployment rate in this state has dropped. two summers ago it was over 14%. now it's 10.9%. but, obviously, still far worse than the national average, still very dangerous politically for a president who's facing re-election. i should note as well that some of the union officials, the labor crowd, the president also trying to rev up his political operation heading into 2012. the teamster president, jimmy hoffa jr., was speaking a couple moments ago and saying we'll remember in november who's with the working people. he was chiding republicans, specifically named the tea party, and then his language got a lot stronger, and pardon my language as i repeat it. he said of the tea party and republicans, quote, let's take these sons of bitches out. it got some cheers here from the crowd in detroit. megyn: i just want to make sure we understa
